Pink Elephant Rose 2006 - Portugal

Pink Elephant Rose 2006 - Portugal

If ever a wine was created to perfectly complement spicy Indian food, the Pink Elephant is it! Born in the minds of a panel of British wine experts and nurtured in the hearts of the world’s top winemakers, this remarkable wine brings us the very soul of Portugal, a country normally renowned for its robust reds and fragrant whites (Vinho Verde).
The Pink Elephant, with its intense fruity aromas of strawberry and raspberry, is a blend of four varietals (Touriga Nacional, Alfrocheiro, Castelao and Cabernet Sauvignon in equal measure). The extraordinary decision to use free-run juice instead of the watery runoffs of these varietals (as is usually the case) can be attributed to winemakers David Baverstock and José Neiva, on whose Estremadura estate the Pink Elephant is delicately crafted.
With its mouth-watering juiciness and crisp fresh flavours, the Pink Elephant is one of the very best examples of a food specific wine. Serve very cold.

Reveilo Reserve Syrah 2005 - INDIA

Reveilo Reserve Syrah 2005 - INDIA

What happens when you barrel age a wine that is already regarded as one of India’s finest? After revelling in European oak for nine months, the Reserve Syrah possesses an enchanting nose, and displays a smoky disposition on the palate that perfectly complements its fruity notes. Brought to you from the outskirts of Nasik by the uncompromising people at Vintage Wines, the Reveilo Reserve Syrah’s silkiness pairs beautifully well with delicately seasoned mutton, including subtly spiced Biryani.

Mon Roc Chardonnay 2006 - France

Mon Roc Chardonnay 2006 - France

For over two generations, Georges DuBoeuf’s name has been synonymous with his range of Beaujolais wines, even earning him the title of le roi du Beaujolais (the King of Beaujolais). His foray into the world of white wines brings us this outstanding Chardonnay with delightful aromas of acacia and lime blossom. Its full and smooth palate is accentuated by subtle notes of honey and lemon. The natural richness of this Chardonnay from the South of France lends itself completely to food cooked in butter, especially seafood.

Laroche Syrah 2006 – France

Laroche Syrah 2006 – France

Just as Georges DuBoeuf is acclaimed for his Beaujolais, Michel Laroche is for his Chablis. When the King of Chablis decided to make a Syrah, it caused quite a stir. Particularly when it won the Silver Medal at the 2007 Syrah Du Monde.
Harvested in the South of France, the Laroche Syrah is deep garnet in colour, with aromatic notes of leather and black cherry. On the palate, the full-bodied Syrah packs a chewy mouthful, with flavours of blackcurrant and cherry that are ably balanced by its supple tannins. The Laroche Syrah pairs brilliantly with all hearty dishes including our spicy choices.

Hill & Dale Cabernet Shiraz 2006 – South Africa

Hill & Dale Cabernet Shiraz 2006 – South Africa

Hill & Dale’s Cabernet Shiraz is brought to us by Stellenzicht Vineyards, who stamped their authority on the world wine map with their 1994 Syrah that won awards for André van Rensburg (now at Vergelegen) across the world, and even bested the legendary Penfolds Grange in a blind tasting. Based in the university town of Stellenbosch just outside Cape Town, Stellenzicht (whose very name means ‘View of Stellenbosch’) nurtures this luscious blend (66% Cabernet, 34% Shiraz) on the windswept slopes of the Helderberg Mountains. With its heady aromas of tobacco and sweet cherry, and earthy tones of chocolate and spice, this Cabernet Shiraz speaks from the heart of Africa. This Shiraz matches all spicy food, and goes brilliantly with butter chicken!

Falesco, Est! Est!! Est!!! Di Montefiascone 2005, Italy

Falesco, Est! Est!! Est!!! Di Montefiascone 2005, Italy

The unusual name of this Italian easy drinking white wine comes from Martin, the cupbearer of Bishop Johan Defugger in the year 1111AD, who on entering the village of Montefiascone wrote 'Est! Est!! Est!!!' on the door of the inn (instead of the usual sign of 'Est!', meaning 'a good place to stay') as he thought the wines of the area were exceptionally good. It is a blend of 3 local grapes, 60% Trebbiano, 30% Malvasia, 10% Roscetto grown in the mountains to the North of Rome. This straw-coloured wine is fresh and structured due to its good acidity level. The nose has characteristics of fine aromas with floral and fruity hints. It is an excellent aperitif and a good compliment to coastal cuisines.
