Wine Trip to Margaret River

Margaret River vineyards in Western Australia
Wonderful countryside awaits

The Wine Society of India is pleased to announce the first of our Vineyard Visit tours departing Bombay  later this year to Margaret River, Western Australia. Be amongst the lucky few to experience this stunning corner of the world – and the nearest major wine producing region outside India.

A three hour drive south of Perth, Margaret River is described by Jancis Robinson as "a virtually unpopulated surfer's paradise on a coast lined with gentle eucalyptus forests full of wild parrots and the odd kangaroo".

"Around this small settlement of Margaret River is a cluster of more than 100 wine estates making some of Australia's best-built Cabernets, sometimes blended with Merlot, some exceptionally long-living Chardonnay, some pretty good Shiraz and even Zinfandel." A must to visit!

This tour will include many of the vineyards highly recommend by Jancis. The wines from Margaret River are also rated amongst the best by Robert Parker – and at modest prices!

Below provides you a brief outline of the itinerary. Please note that some details may change:

Day 1: Thursday, the 29th of October, 2009

Arrive midday and travel to Swan District. Visit some of the Swan Valley's finest wineries including Sandalford, Houghton, the dominant producer in the area, and Lamont's for a private tasting at each.  That night check into the Vines Country Club.

Dinner at leisure gives you a chance to relax after the journey.

Day 2: Friday, the 30th of October, 2009

Breakfast at Vines Country Club.

Depart for Dunsborough and a visit to Wise Vineyards, located in the Northern part of the Margaret River region, for a set menu two-course lunch and a glass of wine followed by a wine tasting of Wise wines. Next we continue down the coast to Canal Rocks to take in a beautiful vista of the Indian Ocean, and then to Woodlands for another vineyard visit and tasting.  Finally we drive on to Margaret River, arriving at your accommodation for the next three nights.

Enjoy a group dinner at Winos restaurant à la carte and a glass of wine to match.

Day 3: Saturday, the 31st of October, 2009

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel.

Begin late morning with a visit to Pierro Winery, to taste a now famous Sauvignon/Semillion blend, first produced by Dr. Michael Peterkin of Pierro, who is one of several wine-mad practitioners to establish a winery in this region. Then onto Cullens Winery for a private tasting and a sit down à la carte lunch accompanied by a glass of wine and cheese to match. Finish the day with a visit to Gralyn Winery, possibly one of the highlights of the trip.

That evening, we enjoy a "wine sunset" on the coast with local musical entertainment, followed by a casual BBQ dinner with a glass of wine at the Gnarabar Restaurant – great way to end the day!

(Provision for BYOB at $10AUD corkage charge per bottle)
