The Wine Society of India

1. What is The Wine Society of India?
The Wine Society of India is a membership organization dedicated to providing information and education about the wine world through a variety of specialized programmes, including home-study and classroom wine courses, vineyard visits, distribution of informative publications about wine such as “How to Taste” and “Wine and Health” etc; and the organisation of wine tastings, where wine is the focus of an enjoyable social gathering.

Through our Four Seasons Wine Discoveries programme, we arrange for the supply of exceptional quality wines at modest prices. Wines are sourced from all over the world, including India, by our independent Board of Wine Advisors and are sold and delivered direct-to-home in temperature controlled conditions via a partner retailer, to those who subscribe to our Four Seasons Wine Discoveries Programme.

2. What kind of wine does the Wine Society of India source for its members through The Four Seasons Wine Discoveries programme?
At The Wine Society of India we do believe that there is no direct co-relation between price and quality as far as wine is concerned. Many expensive wines deliver a disappointing experience, and there are many inexpensive wines which punch above their weight, quality-wise.

Finding these exceptional wines at modest prices is Job Number One for our Board of Wine Advisors – those vineyards where quality is more important than quantity, where the winemaker is more concerned about building up his reputation one bottle at a time than extracting every last Rupee of profit. There are literally hundreds of these “discovery” vineyards around the world, including India, waiting for you to enjoy as part of your voyage of Wine Discovery.

Over time you will be taken to all major wine-producing regions, shown what makes these regions famous, what the best properties are, what grape types combine to give you the best flavour experiences, what vintages are the best – so that you build up a personal library of wine-tasting experiences and increase your knowledge and self-confidence – all in the comfort of your own armchair!

3. Why does The Society require credit card information in order to register as a member?
In order to become a member of The Wine Society of India, we require you to register a credit card with The Society in order to facilitate payments for future shipments and events, and to provide a commitment to the programme.
